The honest range

In Manhattan, a one-hour session at a reputable provider sits somewhere between $150 and $500. Below $120 you should be asking hard questions about what's actually included. Above $500 you're buying location, exclusivity, or a specific therapist's reputation — not a fundamentally different technique.

Outcall adds a premium, typically 20 to 50 percent over the incall rate for the same duration. That covers the therapist's travel time, which in Manhattan traffic is not a small number.

What drives the price

Duration is the biggest factor, but not linearly — a 90-minute session usually costs less than 1.5 times the 60-minute rate, because the setup time is the same.

Location comes second. Midtown and the hotel corridors around 53rd and 56th charge more than equivalent services further downtown. Therapist experience comes third: someone with a decade of regulars charges for it, and usually earns it.

Why the cheapest option usually isn't

A rate well below the market is a signal, not a bargain. It usually means one of four things: the duration quoted includes setup, the therapist is new and building a client list, the space is not what's pictured, or the price will change once you're there.

The last one is the one that costs you. A rate that doubles at the door leaves you with a choice between paying and leaving — and that's the point of the structure.

Tips and extras

Tipping is customary in the US, and for this kind of service 15 to 20 percent is standard. Some providers include it, some don't — ask. It's a normal question and nobody will be offended.

Extras beyond the listed treatment should be quoted before the session, not during. If a price appears mid-session for something that wasn't discussed, you're entitled to decline it.

What you're actually paying for

Not the oil, and not the hour. You're paying for a private space, a specific person's time and skill, and the fact that they've blocked that slot for you and nobody else.

That's why cancelling at short notice usually carries a fee, and why the deposit structure exists. It's not punitive — it's the cost of holding a slot in a business where the schedule is the inventory.

Budgeting realistically

If you're booking regularly, the cost adds up faster than people expect. Two sessions a month at $400 is nearly $10,000 a year. Some providers offer a discounted rate for repeat bookings or off-peak times — worth asking on the second visit, not the first.

If cost is the limiting factor, a shorter session at a good provider beats a longer one somewhere questionable. Duration is the easiest thing to compromise on. Safety and skill aren't.
