The consultation is not optional
Every legitimate provider runs a short consultation before the session starts. It covers pressure, focus areas, anything to avoid, and — importantly — what the session does and doesn't include.
Skip this and you're relying on assumptions. Both people end up guessing, and that's where misunderstandings come from.
Boundaries work both ways
A provider's limits should be stated clearly before booking and respected without negotiation. The same applies in reverse — yours are equally valid, and stating them isn't rude.
If either side has to push for something that wasn't agreed, the session has already gone wrong. A professional operation doesn't require you to argue your case.
Hygiene is not negotiable
Shower before. Both parties. This isn't a courtesy, it's a working requirement — oil and gel go directly onto skin, and the technique depends on a clean surface.
Arrive sober. Not a moral position, a practical one: alcohol and drugs both increase injury risk with deep pressure and make it impossible for a therapist to read your body's responses.
Punctuality and cancellations
Arrive on time. Not early — early is often more disruptive than late, because the room isn't ready. Five minutes either side is normal.
If you need to cancel, give as much notice as you can. Short-notice cancellations usually carry a fee, because the slot can't be resold. Same applies the other way: if a provider cancels on you repeatedly, that's a pattern worth acting on.
What's reasonable to ask
Firmer pressure. Less pressure. A different focus for the second half. A pause. A break for water. A specific area left alone.
What's not reasonable: anything not agreed before the session, any attempt to renegotiate the price mid-session, or any request that a provider step outside their stated limits. A clear no at the start is not an opening position.
If something goes wrong
Say so immediately, not afterwards. Almost every problem in a session is fixable in the moment and unfixable once you've left.
If it can't be resolved, end the session and settle up for the time used. That's a normal, professional outcome, and no reputable provider will make it difficult.
